OP0207 ASSOCIATION BETWEEN DEMENTIA AND GOUT: A NATIONWIDE POPULATION-BASED STUDY

Background: Dementia is a common mental illness associated with aging. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Vascular dementia (VaD) are the most causes of in elderly. In previous studies, hyperuricemia was suggested to have anti-oxidant effects possible neuroprotective [1,2]. Objectives: Hyperuricemia important factor pathogenesis gout. This study aims investigate association between gout dementia. Methods: We conducted nationwide population-based using NHIS-NSC database Korean populations consisted 1 million individuals 2002 2013. Gout patients were defined by International Classification Diseases (ICD)-10 code for (M10) prescriptions urate lowering therapy including allopurinol, febuxostat benzbromarone at least 30days. also ICD-10 codes dementia; (AD; F00), vascular (VaD; F01). Results: Excluded 40 diagnosed dementia, total 5,496 compared 27,480 age- sex-matched control group. The analysis results showed that had lower risk overall [odds ratio (OR): 0.79; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.63-0.99; p < 0.05] after adjusted age, sex, household income, comorbidities.
